NATIONAL AMBULANCE SERVICE CELEBRATES CPR AND AED AWARENESS WEEK WITH SEMPE TRADITIONAL COUNCIL

As part of the celebration of CPR & AED Awareness Week, National Ambulance Service has engaged the Sempe Traditional Council on Tuesday, 4th June 2024 at Dansoman in the Greater Accra. The Chiefs and Elders were taken through Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation ( CPR) and how to use the Automated External Defibrillator ( AED). The Deputy Director of Public Relations for National Ambulance Service, Mr Simmons Yussif Kewura educated the council on how important the CPR and AED Awareness Week is. “ Every citizen has to be a potential life saver, regardless of their age or background, by equipping ourselves with these skills , we empower ourselves in an emergency situation “ he said

The Chief of Oduman Traditional Area , Nii Odu II stated the training on CPR and AED Awareness is relevant because in case of an emergency they can call and start something to help save a soul. “ The training is essential because in case of an emergency we can call for help and start something to help save life “ he added CPR is a simple yet live saving technique that bridges the critical gap between the onset of emergency medical services, by manually pumping the victims heart and providing rescue breaths, CPR helps maintain blood flow to the brain and vital functions until further medical interventions can be administered.

AEDs are compact portable devices that play a complementary role in the chain of survival. They analyze the victims heart rhythm and if necessary, deliver a life saving electrical shock to restore a normal rhythm. In 2007 a coalition with American Red Cross and the National Safety Council worked collaboratively to set aside June 1-7 each year as National CPR and AED Awareness Week.
