Personnel of the National Ambulance Service from the Adugyama and Mankranso Ambulance Stations in the Ashanti Region responded swiftly to a tragic road traffic collision that occurred on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Potikrom in the Ahafo Ano South-East District.
The incident involved a Ford Transit passenger vehicle travelling from Kumasi to Bechem and a private ambulance believed to belong to St. Mary’s Catholic Hospital, which was reportedly transporting a patient to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The head-on collision resulted in severe damage to both vehicles and led to multiple casualties.
Emergency responders from the National Ambulance Service, with support from the Ghana Police Service, quickly organised rescue operations at the scene.
Preliminary reports indicate that approximately sixteen people tragically lost their lives in the accident. Several others sustained serious injuries, including head trauma, fractures, and amputations.
Emergency Medical Technicians transported more than five injured students to the Adugyama Government Hospital for treatment, while two critically injured victims were referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for advanced medical care.
Management and staff of the National Ambulance Service extend their heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery.
