The National Ambulance Service (NAS), Ashanti Region, has equipped staff and customers of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) with essential lifesaving skills as part of the Authority’s Customer Service Week celebration.
Held at the DVLA Kumasi main office under the theme “Going the Extra Mile,” the engagement focused on basic first aid and emergency response, equipping participants with practical knowledge on what to do during the critical moments before professional medical help arrives.
The programme commenced with an interactive panel discussion, where the NAS team engaged participants on the Service’s mandate, ambulance operations, emergency response and the importance of timely intervention during emergencies.
Participants subsequently took part in practical demonstrations on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), the recovery position and bleeding control. They were guided through techniques that can be applied to provide immediate assistance to victims, particularly in situations involving road traffic accidents.
The training emphasised that the first few minutes of an emergency can make a critical difference. Participants were encouraged to respond appropriately, provide basic lifesaving assistance and work closely with professional emergency responders when help is required.
The engagement forms part of NAS’s continued efforts to build public capacity in basic lifesaving skills, strengthen emergency preparedness and promote greater awareness of emergency medical services.
At NAS, we remain committed to empowering communities with the knowledge and skills needed to help save lives.
