On April 1, 2026, the Ghana Education Service, in collaboration with the Office of the Member of Parliament for Tano North Constituency, organised a comprehensive career guidance programme in Duayaw Nkwanta. The initiative aimed at equipping students with the knowledge and direction needed to make informed career choices, particularly within public service and other professional fields.
The programme brought together key stakeholders and dignitaries who underscored the importance of education and career planning. Notably, the Nanahemaa of Duayaw Nkwanta, Nana Serwaa Nyarko, graced the occasion and encouraged candidates preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to remain focused and committed to their academic pursuits. Also present was the Member of Parliament for Tano North Constituency, Hon. Gideon Boako.
Representatives from various essential service institutions were present to expose students to diverse career opportunities. These included the National Ambulance Service, Ghana Education Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police Service, and Ghana National Fire Service.
Each institution provided valuable insights into their mandates, recruitment processes, and career progression pathways, helping students understand how their academic journeys can translate into meaningful employment opportunities at both basic and tertiary levels.
During the session by the National Ambulance Service, a team led by SAEMT Kyei Okyere Darko delivered an engaging presentation on the history, operations, and impact of the Service. This was complemented by practical demonstrations in Basic Life Support (BLS), where students were introduced to critical lifesaving techniques, including:
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and when it should be administered
• Bleeding control methods
• First aid response for choking
The interactive nature of the session allowed students and members of the public to ask questions, which were thoroughly addressed by the team. In his closing remarks, the team leader emphasised the importance of responsible use of emergency services, urging the public to call the emergency line only in genuine situations, as the Service operates 24/7 to save lives.
The programme successfully inspired and empowered students, bridging the gap between education and career opportunities while promoting awareness of vital emergency and health services.
