The National Ambulance Service (NAS) yesterday hosted a delegation from the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) as part of an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Project Preparatory Visit aimed at advancing plans for a proposed EMS Health Systems Strengthening Project in Ghana.
The visit formed part of a formative study being undertaken by KOFIH to engage key stakeholders, assess existing emergency care structures, and collaboratively shape project interventions that will strengthen Ghana’s pre-hospital emergency care system.
During discussions with the Management of NAS, led by the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, the KOFIH delegation, led by their Deputy Director - Mrs. Sooyeon Kook, presented a comprehensive Project Design Matrix outlining proposed project activities. The engagement provided an opportunity for both parties to review the framework and identify the lead, supporting, and monitoring implementing agencies responsible for the successful implementation of the various project components.
As part of efforts to share best practices and existing capacity-building initiatives, NAS also presented and officially handed over its NAS–Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Community Medical First Responder (CMFR) Training Manual to the KOFIH team. The manual, which guides the training of community-based first responders across the country, is expected to provide valuable insights into Ghana’s approach to expanding emergency medical care at the community level.
The deliberations further focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration, refining implementation strategies, and ensuring that proposed interventions align with national priorities for emergency healthcare delivery.
The delegation subsequently toured the NAS Workshop to gain firsthand insight into the Service’s fleet maintenance operations, technical capacity, and logistical support systems that support emergency response services nationwide.
The proposed EMS Health Systems Strengthening Project is expected to contribute significantly to improving emergency healthcare delivery through enhanced infrastructure, institutional strengthening, capacity building, and operational efficiency.
