After more than two years off the road due to a major engine breakdown, the Lawra Municipal Ambulance is back in full operation, restoring dedicated emergency ambulance services to residents of Lawra and surrounding communities.
The return of the ambulance marks a significant relief for the municipality, where its absence had posed challenges to emergency referrals and access to timely pre-hospital care, particularly for pregnant women, road traffic crash victims and other critically ill patients.
The restoration was made possible through the leadership and intervention of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dr. (Med.) George Kojo Owusu, whose commitment ensured that the long-standing mechanical challenge was comprehensively addressed.
Following its successful repair, the ambulance was formally presented to the Lawra Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Cecelia Soyelle, to officially announce the restoration of emergency ambulance services in the municipality.
Presenting the ambulance, the Officer-in-charge PAEMT Nuatro Stephen, described its return as a major relief for the people of Lawra.
“For over two years, our people have struggled without a dedicated emergency ambulance. Today, we are happy to announce that the Lawra Ambulance has been fully repaired and is back in commission. We are back to serve.”
He assured residents of NAS’s continued commitment to providing timely, professional and quality emergency medical care, while urging the public to seek emergency assistance promptly whenever the need arises.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Cecelia Soyelle, welcomed the development and commended the leadership of NAS for prioritising the restoration of the ambulance. She noted that its prolonged absence had placed considerable pressure on the municipal health system and affected emergency referrals.
She further assured NAS of the Assembly’s support in maintaining the vehicle and appealed to residents to protect and support the ambulance as a vital community asset.
The restoration has been warmly welcomed by residents, who say the return of the ambulance will strengthen emergency response and contribute to saving lives across the municipality.
The Lawra Municipal Ambulance is now fully operational and stationed at its base, ready to respond to emergencies across Lawra and neighbouring communities.
