The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dr. George Kojo Owusu, has paid a working visit to the Paramedic and Emergency Care Training School (PECTS) at Nkenkaasu in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, 28th August 2025.
The visit formed part of NAS’s efforts to ensure the school’s readiness to host the first cohort of Youth Employment Agency (YEA) trainees, who are scheduled to report on Saturday, 30th August 2025, for a four-week intensive training under the NAS–YEA Community Medical First Responders (CMFR) Initiative.
During the tour, Dr. Owusu inspected key facilities, including lecture halls, facilitators’ accommodation, and training logistics. He expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness, noting improvements such as the augmentation of power supply in readiness for the programme. He commended the school’s management for their proactive measures to ensure a successful exercise.
The first batch of 250 trainees will undergo four weeks of training, after which the second and third cohorts will be admitted in succession. In total, between 750 and 800 trainees will be trained at Nkenkaasu, equipping them with vital lifesaving skills to serve as Community Medical First Responders (CMFRs) in their respective communities.
This visit reflects the commitment of NAS leadership to ensuring a smooth rollout of the programme, which aims to train and deploy 6,000 CMFRs nationwide under the NAS–YEA collaboration.
