NAS CEO Attends Funeral of Retired ACP Charles Awini

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) mourns the loss of one of its most esteemed contributors, Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Charles Awini, whose passing marks the end of a remarkable chapter in the Service’s history.

In honour of his memory and invaluable contributions, the Chief Executive Officer of NAS, Dr. George Kojo Owusu, together with members of Management and selected staff, attended the funeral ceremony held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the St. George Catholic Church, National Police Training School, Tesano, Accra.

Following his retirement from the Ghana Police Service, ACP (Rtd) Awini brought his wealth of experience, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the National Ambulance Service, where he served with distinction as a tutor and mentor to countless Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). His dynamic teaching style, blending humour with firmness, endeared him to his students, many of whom credit him as a defining influence in their professional development.

He was more than an instructor; he was a motivator, a guide, and a father figure to many within the Service. ACP Awini’s passion for excellence and dedication to public service helped shape the foundational ethos of the NAS training system.

Notably, he championed the integration of the Special Operations Unit (SOU) into the Service’s main Operational structure, a vision that today stands as part of his enduring legacy.

The National Ambulance Service remembers ACP Charles Awini with deep respect and gratitude. His legacy of service, mentorship, and leadership continues to inspire all who had the privilege of learning from him.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
