The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dr. (Med.) George Kojo Owusu, has expressed satisfaction with the significant impact of Community-based First Medical Responders (CMFRs) in strengthening pre-hospital emergency care across communities in the Northern Region.
During his ongoing working visit to the region, the CEO highlighted the critical role CMFRs continue to play in bridging the gap between emergency incidents and professional medical response. He noted that in many hard-to-reach communities, CMFRs have become the first line of life-saving intervention, improving survival outcomes before ambulance arrival.
Dr. Owusu commended the dedication, discipline, and commitment of the responders, describing their contribution as a vital extension of the National Ambulance Service’s mandate to ensure timely and quality emergency care for all, regardless of location.
He further acknowledged that the CMFR initiative has significantly strengthened community resilience in emergency situations, especially in rural and peri-urban areas where access to formal emergency services may be limited.
Stakeholders in the region have also welcomed the programme’s impact, noting improved response times and increased community awareness on emergency preparedness.
