The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr.(Med) George Kojo Owusu, has commenced a five-day working visit to the Northern Region aimed at obtaining first-hand information on the operational challenges confronting the Service in the region.
The tour, beginning today, Monday, May 11, 2026, forms part of Management’s commitment to strengthening emergency medical services delivery across the country through direct engagement with staff and stakeholders.
As part of the visit, Dr. Owusu is expected to pay a courtesy call on the Northern Regional Coordinating Council and meet with the Northern Regional Minister to officially commence the working tour.
The CEO will also visit the Mayor of Tamale and the Northern Regional Police Commander as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Service and key institutions in emergency response and public safety management within the region.
In furtherance of stakeholder engagement, Dr. Owusu is expected to pay a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon, Naa Mahama Abukari II, at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi. The visit is expected to reinforce the cordial relationship between the National Ambulance Service and traditional authorities in the area.
The CEO will also inspect the broken-down oxygen plant in the region, which previously supplied medical oxygen to ambulance stations and health facilities within the northern sector of the country. The inspection is expected to help Management assess the current state of the facility and explore possible interventions to restore its operations.
Dr. Owusu will further tour several ambulance stations across the Northern Region to interact with Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), dispatchers, and administrative staff. The interactions will provide an opportunity for personnel to present operational concerns, logistical challenges, and suggestions geared towards improving service delivery.
The working visit is also expected to focus on issues relating to ambulance maintenance, staff welfare, response operations, equipment availability, and infrastructure development within the region.
As part of the northern sector engagement, the CEO will undertake a one-day visit to the Upper East Regional Administration of the Service, where he is expected to meet staff and inspect operational facilities in the region.
The Management of the National Ambulance Service remains committed to improving pre-hospital emergency care services across the country through strategic leadership engagements, infrastructure improvement, and enhanced staff support systems.
