The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, together with members of Management, has paid a working visit to the Greater Accra Regional Emergency Dispatch Centre as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency response, communication and referral coordination.
The visit focused on assessing the National Coordinated Bed Management and Referral Coordination System, a critical framework designed to facilitate seamless communication between referring and receiving health facilities, help address “No Bed Syndrome” and support efficient patient transfers through coordinated dispatch.
Dr. Owusu and the Management team reviewed call-handling processes, operational workflows and communication channels, while assessing infrastructure and areas requiring technological upgrades.
Addressing staff at the Centre, the CEO described effective dispatch operations as fundamental to quality emergency medical services and announced measures to upgrade ICT systems and introduce comprehensive call-recording systems to strengthen quality assurance and accountability.
He further highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance operational protocols, call-ticket tracking and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure greater efficiency, accountability and improved patient care.
Through strengthened systems, enhanced digital tracking and improved coordination, NAS continues to advance a responsive and integrated emergency medical service network capable of delivering timely care to patients across Ghana.
