The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, has outlined key interventions to strengthen emergency medical response in the Oti Region during a working visit to the Regional Ambulance Service Headquarters. The planned interventions include additional support for regional drivers, recruitment to boost personnel strength, the establishment of an additional ambulance station, and the introduction of new ambulances in 2027 to expand emergency response coverage. Recognising the unique challenges of riverine communities, the CEO also highlighted plans to provide specialised safety vests for personnel involved in transporting patients across rivers by canoe. Additional measures include the provision of additional phones to improve communication and coordination among stations, support towards establishing an oxygen plant in the region, and the distribution of essential medical consumables. Dr. Owusu commended the Oti Regional Administration for its efforts to improve public awareness and community engagement, noting the importance of public education in strengthening access to emergency services. These measures reflect NAS Management’s continued commitment to addressing regional operational needs, supporting frontline personnel, and expanding access to timely and reliable prehospital emergency care.
