The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, yesterday paid a working visit to the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate as part of his tour of the Ashanti Region.
During the visit, the CEO paid a courtesy call on the Ashanti Regional Health Director, Dr. Fred Adomako-Boateng, and the Director in charge of Institutional Care at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Lawrence Ofori Boadu.
Dr. Owusu expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and briefed the Regional Health Directorate on measures being implemented by the Service following the recent national discussions surrounding the No Bed Syndrome. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening emergency medical services through the planned procurement of 400 ambulances and 500 medical motorbikes to enhance response times and expand access to emergency care across the country.
In his remarks, Dr. Adomako-Boateng revealed that the Directorate is working towards establishing health posts in highly congested communities to bring healthcare closer to residents. He noted that the introduction of medical motorbikes will significantly support faster emergency response and improve access to patients in difficult-to-reach areas.
The meeting also highlighted discussions on the proposed establishment of the Ambulance Council, which will regulate and set operational standards for private and institutional ambulance services to ensure that only properly trained pre-hospital professionals operate such services.
The visit further strengthened collaboration between the National Ambulance Service and the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate as both institutions reaffirmed their shared commitment to improving emergency healthcare delivery in the region and across the country.
