The CEO of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, recently visited the Western Region, touring the Takoradi workshop, Takoradi ambulance station, EKMA ambulance station, and regional dispatch center. During the visit, he commended staff for their dedication and professionalism.
He praised the regional administrative manager and team for securing additional office space from the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, thanking MCE Hon Majeed for his support. The CEO pledged to boost the regional workshop, which also serves the central region, with staff training and additional personnel.
In the short term, the CEO suggested requesting National Service personnel to support operations. He highlighted the challenge of an aging ambulance fleet, which incurs high maintenance costs and frequent breakdowns, draining resources.
Staff welcomed government plans to augment the fleet with ambulances and medical motorbikes, requesting more EMT staff and capacity-building support. The CEO's visit aimed to strengthen NAS workshops and enhance emergency services in the region.
