The Greater Accra Regional Administration of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) hosted the Board Chairman of the Service, Nana Baffour Kotei Kutin Sraman II, Bremahene, on a working visit aimed at engaging personnel, assessing operational realities, and gaining firsthand insight into emergency medical service delivery across the Region.
The visit formed part of efforts to strengthen emergency medical services through direct engagement with frontline staff and a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the Region’s operations.
The Board Chairman was welcomed by the Regional Administrator, DCAEMT Daniel Asare, and members of the Regional Management Team, who briefed him on the Region’s operations, staffing levels, ambulance fleet, equipment, and other critical issues affecting the delivery of prehospital emergency care.
As part of the visit, Nana Baffour Kotei Kutin Sraman II toured the Ayawaso Central Ambulance Station and Ridge Ambulance Station, where he interacted with Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and listened to concerns and recommendations from personnel at the station level.
Among the key issues raised were the need for adequate personal protective equipment (PPE), medical consumables and equipment, improved office accommodation at some stations, frequent ambulance breakdowns, enhanced incentives and allowances for personnel, and healthcare support for EMTs who sustain illness or injury in the line of duty.
Responding to the concerns, the Board Chairman disclosed that efforts were underway to retool the National Ambulance Service with a new fleet of ambulances to replace ageing vehicles. He further indicated that Management was actively working to repair ambulances currently grounded due to engine and injector-related faults.
He also underscored the importance of a strong maintenance culture and encouraged EMT drivers to undertake routine daily inspections to facilitate early fault detection and extend the lifespan of operational vehicles.
On staff welfare, Nana Baffour Kotei Kutin Sraman II revealed that the Service was pursuing policies aimed at providing healthcare support for EMTs who become ill or sustain injuries while serving. He further assured personnel of Management’s commitment to providing the medical equipment, logistics, and operational support necessary for effective emergency response.
The Board Chairman commended personnel of the Greater Accra Region for their dedication, professionalism, and sacrifices in saving lives. He particularly praised the crew that responded to the recent accident at Ofankor, describing their actions as a demonstration of the Service’s unwavering commitment to emergency care delivery.
He encouraged all staff to remain committed to their duties, continue delivering high-quality emergency medical care, and uphold the positive image and reputation of the National Ambulance Service.
The visit provided a valuable platform for personnel to share their experiences and concerns directly with the leadership of the Service while enabling the Board Chairman to gain firsthand appreciation of operational realities within the Region.
The Greater Accra Regional Management expressed its appreciation to the Board Chairman for taking the time to engage with personnel, listen to their concerns, and provide reassurance and strategic direction as the Service continues its mission of delivering timely, quality, and life-saving prehospital emergency care across Ghana.
