The National Ambulance Service (NAS), through the Ho Central Ambulance Station, has successfully conducted a joint mass-casualty simulation exercise with the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Volta Regional Police Headquarters and the Emergency Ward of the Ho Polyclinic.
The exercise, held on Friday, 28th August 2026, near the Goil Filling Station at Godokpe in Ho, was aimed at assessing operational readiness, strengthening inter-agency coordination, and evaluating emergency response procedures in the event of a major road traffic collision.
The simulated scenario involved six casualties with varying degrees of injuries, requiring emergency personnel to apply field triage, prehospital care, casualty management, and coordinated patient transfer protocols under realistic conditions.
The exercise provided valuable hands-on experience for ambulance personnel, police officers, and healthcare professionals, while testing communication channels and the seamless transition of patients from the scene of an incident to a healthcare facility.
Management of the participating agencies noted that regular simulation exercises are vital in enhancing preparedness, improving response efficiency, and strengthening collaboration among emergency service providers. They emphasized that such drills help ensure that emergency personnel remain equipped to deliver timely and effective care during real-life mass-casualty incidents.
