The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has participated in a stakeholder validation exercise organised by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to review draft job descriptions for exit nursing grades, Public Relations Professionals and Midwife Specialists.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, 13th October 2026, at the Ghana Health Service Conference Centre in Pantang, Accra, brought together stakeholders to scrutinise the draft job descriptions and provide technical inputs to ensure that they accurately reflect professional responsibilities, qualifications, competencies and service delivery requirements.
NAS was represented at the meeting by 𝐌𝐫. 𝐊𝐨𝐟𝐢 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐰𝐚𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮, 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫, who participated in the deliberations concerning the draft job description for Public Relations Professionals.
In her welcome remarks, the Deputy Director-General of GHS, Dr. Caroline Reindorf Amissah, encouraged participants to make meaningful contributions towards the successful completion of the exercise and urged them to engage actively in the discussions.
The Director of the Human Resource Development Division (HRDD) of GHS, Mr. Peter Obiri-Yeboah, highlighted the relevance of Public Relations within the health sector. He underscored the need for the function to be elevated to directorate status, emphasising the institutional prominence and recognition that such a structure could bring to the profession.
Participants were subsequently divided into three workstreams to undertake detailed reviews of the respective draft job descriptions and propose amendments to strengthen their clarity, completeness and alignment with professional expectations.
GHS DIRECTOR-GENERAL CALLS FOR STRONGER PR CAPACITY AND HEALTH SECTOR REFORM
In his closing remarks, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, emphasised the need to strengthen the GHS Public Relations team with adequate resources to support the quality and effectiveness of its work.
He also highlighted the importance of a GHS institute to help develop a higher-quality workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of the health sector.
Dr. Akoriyea further called for a change in mindset, stressing the need for a renewed approach to addressing challenges and improving the country’s health system.
His remarks reinforced the importance of investing in professional capacity, strengthening institutional structures and developing a workforce equipped to contribute meaningfully to improved healthcare delivery.
NEXT STEPS
Following the stakeholder validation exercise, the Human Resource Development Division is expected to consolidate the comments received into revision logs for each draft, with disputed issues documented separately.
Further evidence and technical inputs will also be sought, including key-informant interviews with the Office of the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services, alongside any additional input identified by the workstreams.
The revised drafts will subsequently undergo formal job analysis and consideration by the Technical Working Group constituted under the programme before being submitted to Management and the Director-General for approval.
Upon adoption, the approved job descriptions will be issued to the regions and health facilities for application in staff appraisal, deployment, recruitment advertisements and promotion processes.
NAS’s participation in the exercise underscores the importance of stakeholder collaboration in strengthening professional standards, clarifying institutional responsibilities and supporting the development of effective Public Relations practice within Ghana’s health sector.
