The National Ambulance Service (NAS) provided critical emergency medical support during the launch of the Free Primary Health Care Programme by 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢 𝐌𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐚, 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐚, at Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East District.
The flagship programme, which seeks to remove out-of-pocket costs for essential primary healthcare, forms part of Ghana’s broader efforts to advance Universal Health Coverage and improve access to quality healthcare, particularly at the community and primary healthcare levels.
As a key partner in Ghana’s healthcare delivery system, NAS supports this continuum of care by providing emergency medical response, pre-hospital care and referral services that connect patients and communities to appropriate levels of healthcare.
At the launch, the Service provided medical standby coverage, with Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) from the Upper East Region strategically deployed at designated points within the event grounds.
The EMTs remained on standby throughout the programme, ready to provide prompt emergency medical assistance to participants and members of the public who might require care.
The deployment underscores the vital role of NAS in strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system beyond emergency response alone. By ensuring the availability of timely pre-hospital care and emergency referral support at major public events, the Service contributes to a seamless continuum of care from the community level to appropriate healthcare facilities.
NAS’s participation in the launch further reflects its commitment to supporting national health initiatives and ensuring that timely, professional and life-saving emergency medical care remains within reach whenever and wherever it is needed.
