The National Ambulance Service (NAS), Greater Accra Region, has responded to a major multiple-vehicle road traffic accident at Ofankor, managing and transporting 10 casualties, with a preliminary report indicating seven fatalities.
The accident, which occurred at about 0459 hours, involved seven vehicles—two tipper trucks, two Sprinter vehicles, two saloon cars and a tricycle.
Four NAS ambulances from Achimota, Ridge, Circle and LEKMA Ambulance Stations were deployed. The first unit from Achimota was dispatched at 0500 hours and arrived at the scene at 0508 hours.
The ambulance teams conducted casualty assessment, triage, emergency pre-hospital care and evacuation. The 10 casualties, seven females and three males, were transported to Ga East Municipal Hospital and Achimota Hospital for further treatment. Two female casualties were subsequently reported dead on arrival, while five fatalities were reported at the scene.
The preliminary death toll therefore stands at seven, subject to verification and reconciliation with the relevant emergency response agencies and receiving health facilities.
The NAS extends its condolences to the bereaved families and wishes the injured a speedy recovery. The Service also urges motorists to exercise caution, obey speed limits and give emergency vehicles the necessary right of way.
