While attention during His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama’s two-day “Resetting Ghana” tour of the Upper East Region was focused on development projects, stakeholder engagements and community interactions, the National Ambulance Service (NAS) also remained steadfastly focused on one priority: safeguarding lives.
As part of its mandate to provide pre-hospital emergency medical care, NAS, led by DCAEMT Azudaa R. Atandigre, the Regional Administrative Manager, deployed a dedicated team of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to provide continuous medical escort and emergency response support throughout the President’s engagements across the region.
The medical team was strategically positioned to ensure rapid emergency intervention for all participants involved in the tour, including government officials, Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, traditional leaders, students, security personnel and members of the public.
Throughout the tour, NAS personnel accompanied the presidential delegation to key project sites and engagements, including the proposed Bolgatanga Airport site, major road infrastructure projects, Paga Senior High School, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Navrongo, and several other locations across the region.
On the second day of the visit, NAS continued its lifesaving mission by providing medical standby services at Desert Pastures in Bolgatanga, where President Mahama met with Chiefs and residents during a grand durbar.
The deployment underscores the critical role Emergency Medical Services play in supporting major national events. While public attention is often directed toward programmes, speeches and project inspections, NAS works behind the scenes to anticipate medical emergencies, prepare for unforeseen incidents and ensure immediate access to lifesaving care whenever needed.
The professionalism, vigilance and dedication demonstrated by the EMTs throughout the tour reflected the National Ambulance Service’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and supporting national development efforts through effective emergency medical preparedness.
Their presence served as a reminder of a simple but important reality: wherever people gather, emergencies can occur. And whenever emergencies arise, NAS stands ready to respond.
