NAS to Train 5th Batch of Military Emergency Medical Technicians (MEMTs)

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) is set to commence training for the 5th batch of Military Emergency Medical Technicians (MEMTs) as part of its long-standing partnership with the Ghana Armed Forces to strengthen emergency response operations across the country.

Since the programme’s inception in 2015 with an initial cohort of 75 personnel, approximately 400 officers of the Ghana Armed Forces have been trained in emergency medical care to support lifesaving interventions within military and civilian settings.

About the 5th Batch

The upcoming training will involve about 60 military personnel, who will undergo intensive instruction facilitated by a team of seasoned emergency physicians, experienced paramedics, and officers from the NAS Training and Development Unit.

The training is designed to enhance the capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces in pre-hospital care, trauma management, and emergency response coordination.

Facilitators’ Meeting Held

Ahead of the programme, a Facilitators’ Meeting was held on Tuesday, 27th January 2026, to review the academic calendar, training timetable, logistics, and resource requirements for the effective delivery of the course.

The meeting was chaired by the Acting Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Operations) of NAS, Dr. Patrick Inkoom-Colbelson, who emphasized the importance of strong inter-agency partnerships

In his remarks, Dr. Inkoom-Colbelson noted that the work of NAS goes beyond pre-hospital care and saving lives, stressing that collaboration with institutions such as the Ghana Armed Forces is essential for national development and security.

Training Start Date

The 5th Batch MEMT Training officially begins on 16th February 2026.

The National Ambulance Service remains committed to building a resilient, professional and responsive emergency medical system through strategic partnerships and continuous capacity development.
