NAS Trains GHACEM Staff on Work at Height and Confined Space Rescue

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has conducted a four-day “Work at Height and Confined Space Rescue Training” for staff of Ghana Cement Company Ltd (GHACEM) at its Tema and Takoradi sites. The annual programme, held from Tuesday, 30th September to Friday, 3rd October 2025, aims to build the capacity of workers in high-risk environments such as elevated platforms and confined spaces.

Facilitated by AEMT Jonathan Rashid, the training combined theory and practical sessions, covering safety procedures, use of protective equipment, fall arrest systems, scaffolds, and rescue tools. Forty participants from GHACEM’s Maintenance and Production Units took part, split into two groups to ensure effective learning.

During the practical sessions, participants were trained in the correct use of safety harnesses, rescue knot-tying techniques, and patient immobilization using devices such as spine boards, extrication tools, and splints. Role-play exercises enabled participants to experience both rescuer and casualty perspectives.

The training emphasized international best practices, teamwork, and strict adherence to safety protocols—equipping GHACEM staff to prevent accidents and respond swiftly during emergencies. It also reaffirmed GHACEM’s commitment to employee safety and strengthened collaboration with NAS in promoting workplace safety nationwide.
