The National Ambulance Service (NAS) Western North Region has successfully organized its second Zonal Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training at Dadieso, as part of a strategic effort to retrain at least 80 percent of its workforce and enhance emergency response delivery across the region.
The one-day intensive training, led by the Acting Regional Administrative Manager, DCAEMT James Hackman, in collaboration with the Regional Training Team, brought together Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) from Enchi, Dadieso, Bodi, Akontombra, and Juaboso ambulance stations.
Designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice, the training combined classroom instruction with hands-on practical sessions. Participants underwent pre- and post-assessment tests to evaluate knowledge acquisition and competence improvement.
Key areas covered during the training included patient vital signs assessment and critical clinical decision-making, effective patient care documentation, oxygen therapy administration, and team dynamics in resuscitation. EMTs were also trained in the use of manual defibrillators and the integration of mechanical CPR compressors with manual CPR, as well as the appropriate use of nebulizers in managing patients with respiratory distress.
In his opening remarks, DCAEMT Hackman emphasized the importance of applying knowledge in real-life situations, stating, “Learning without application is a wasted effort.” He urged participants to approach the training with seriousness and commitment to improving patient outcomes.
Closing the session, he acknowledged ongoing human resource challenges within the region but encouraged staff to remain dedicated and professional in the discharge of their duties. “Though we are few, we must strive to perform diligently wherever we find ourselves,” he added.
The CPD initiative forms part of NAS’s broader commitment to continuously build the capacity of its frontline personnel and improve the quality of pre-hospital emergency care delivery in the Western North Region.
The final phase of the regional CPD training is scheduled to take place at Essam Debiso, where personnel from Adabokrom and Essam-Debiso ambulance stations are expected to benefit.
