National Ambulance Service Celebrates Prof. Dr. Torben Becker for Outstanding Contributions to Emergency Medical Services in Ghana

The Management and staff of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) proudly celebrate and acknowledge the immense contributions of Prof. Dr. Torben Becker, MD, PhD, MBA, a global leader in Emergency Medicine and Health Systems Strengthening, for his unwavering support to the growth and development of prehospital care in Ghana.

Prof. Becker serves as Chief of Service of Emergency Medicine, Executive Director of the Critical Care Organization, and Director of the Section of Global Health at the Department of Emergency Medicine, University of Florida, USA. He is also the President of Global Health Coalition Corp., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing emergency and critical care globally.

A Transformational Partner to NAS

Over the years, Prof. Becker has worked closely with NAS on EMS capacity building and systems strengthening, contributing significantly to the professional development of both EMT students and senior EMTs. His training engagements have covered critical areas including:

One of his landmark achievements was organizing the first-ever joint disaster training between the National Ambulance Service and the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services, strengthening inter-agency emergency preparedness in Ghana.

Advancing Innovation in Prehospital Care

Since 2022, Prof. Becker has been a key supporter of Ghana’s first Community Paramedicine Program through the MotoMeds Ghana Project, helping extend emergency care to hard-to-reach communities.
