National Ambulance Service Stands Strong at Ofankor–Nsawam Accident Scene
Personnel of the National Ambulance Service, alongside some Community Medical First Responders (CMFRs) demonstrated remarkable dedication and professionalism yesterday after responding swiftly to a major road traffic incident along the Ofankor–Nsawam Road in Accra.
The incident involved a truck loaded with cement and a fully loaded petroleum tanker. Reports from the scene indicate that the tanker rammed into the rear of the truck and slid across the roadway, blocking both major lanes and causing a significant obstruction to traffic.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service, and the National Ambulance Service, quickly mobilized to the scene to manage the situation and prevent further casualties.
Our Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were among the first responders and remained on standby at the scene from 2:00 AM, ensuring that any injured persons received immediate medical attention. Their continued presence signifies an unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives even under challenging conditions.
The driver of the petroleum tanker sustained a laceration to the left arm and multiple bruises during the crash. He was promptly attended to by EMTs and transported to Achimota Hospital for further medical treatment.
Meanwhile, officers of the Ghana National Fire Service deployed their water tanker and specialized equipment to manage the hazardous situation while arrangements were made to safely drain the fuel from the tanker to prevent the risk of fire or explosion.
The Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander and the Police Commander were also present at the scene, coordinating emergency operations.
Authorities carefully drained the fuel from the tanker and worked to clear the road to restore normal traffic flow.
The National Ambulance Service commends the dedication of its EMTs and partner emergency agencies whose swift response and teamwork continue to save lives and maintain public safety.
