The Member of Parliament for Kintampo North, Hon. Joseph Kwame Kuma, has donated GH¢60,600 to the National Ambulance Service (NAS) to support the repair and maintenance of an ambulance serving the Kintampo North Constituency.
The donation was presented during a visit to the NAS Headquarters in Accra, where the MP appealed to Management to use the funds to procure a new engine, install an air-conditioning system, and undertake other critical maintenance works to restore the ambulance to operational status. The vehicle has reportedly been out of service for the past three months.
Speaking during the presentation, Hon. Kuma explained that the donation was motivated by the growing challenges faced by victims of road traffic accidents and other emergencies along the Kintampo North corridor, who often require prompt access to pre-hospital emergency care.
He noted that supporting emergency healthcare delivery has remained a priority throughout his six years in Parliament and highlighted his longstanding commitment to the National Ambulance Service through various forms of assistance aimed at improving ambulance operations and emergency response within his constituency.
Hon. Kuma further called on fellow Members of Parliament to support the National Ambulance Service in its efforts to strengthen emergency medical response nationwide, stressing that collective support would help improve access to life-saving services for citizens across the country.
Receiving the donation on behalf of Management and staff of the Service, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr. George Kojo Owusu, expressed sincere appreciation to the MP for the generous gesture and his continued commitment to strengthening emergency healthcare delivery.
Dr. Owusu assured the donor that the funds would be used for their intended purpose, including the procurement of a new engine, installation of an air-conditioning system, and completion of all necessary repairs to return the Kintampo North ambulance to active service.
The CEO also appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), corporate organisations, development partners, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders to support the rehabilitation of ambulances currently grounded due to mechanical challenges.
According to him, such interventions would significantly enhance the Service’s operational capacity, improve response times, and ensure that more communities have access to timely and quality pre-hospital emergency care.
Dr. Owusu further disclosed that the Service is preparing to roll out a nationwide in-service training programme for Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), with a strong emphasis on patient stabilisation, advanced pre-hospital interventions, and the delivery of quality emergency care before and during transportation to receiving health facilities.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would further strengthen the skills and competencies of EMTs, ultimately improving patient outcomes and advancing the quality of emergency medical services across the country.
