The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dr. (Med.) George Kojo Owusu, has inspected ongoing infrastructure projects at the Paramedic and Emergency Care Training School (PECTS), Nkenkaasu, as part of efforts to strengthen the Service’s training capacity and prepare the institution for upcoming programmes and accreditation requirements.
The inspection formed part of the CEO’s two-day working visit to the Ashanti and Bono Regions on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Accompanying him were the Director of Finance, Mr. Victor Cofie, the Ashanti Regional Administrator, DCAEMT Sommik Duut Miilon, and the Deputy Ashanti Regional Administrator, DCAEMT Martin Alalinga.
The delegation was warmly received by the Administrator of PECTS Nkenkaasu, DCHT Vitus Agongo, and staff of the institution.
During the visit, the team toured key project sites, including the ongoing construction of a classroom and administration complex, which is expected to significantly enhance teaching and administrative operations upon completion. They also inspected the proposed site for a hostel facility ahead of a planned sod-cutting ceremony and assessed other development projects aimed at improving the school’s training infrastructure.
The inspection comes at a crucial time as PECTS Nkenkaasu prepares to host the Advanced EMT Batch Five training programme as well as refresher courses for Community Medical First Responders (CMFRs). These initiatives form part of NAS’s broader strategy to strengthen emergency medical care delivery through continuous professional development and capacity building.
The visit also precedes an upcoming facility assessment by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) as part of the accreditation process for the institution. The assessment will determine the school’s readiness and compliance with the standards required to operate as a recognised training institution.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. (Med.) George Kojo Owusu commended the Administrator, management, and staff of PECTS Nkenkaasu for their commitment to maintaining the facility and advancing ongoing projects. He encouraged them to sustain the momentum and continue working collaboratively to position the institution as a centre of excellence for emergency medical training in Ghana.
The visit underscores the National Ambulance Service’s commitment to investing in training infrastructure, enhancing professional development, and building a highly skilled emergency medical workforce capable of delivering quality pre-hospital emergency care across the country.
