Preparedness is built long before an emergency occurs.
In a proactive effort to strengthen emergency response capabilities and inter-agency collaboration, the National Ambulance Service (NAS) Adidome joined the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Ghana Police Service (GPS), and the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit of the Central Tongu District Hospital on Friday, 4th September 2026, for a comprehensive emergency simulation exercise.
The multi-agency drill replicated two high-pressure emergency scenarios—a structural fire outbreak in a multi-storey building and a major road traffic crash—providing responders with a realistic environment to test their readiness, communication systems, and coordinated response mechanisms.
During the exercise, fire officers conducted search-and-rescue operations to extricate victims trapped within the simulated fire scene and damaged vehicles. National Ambulance Service personnel swiftly established a field triage post, where casualties were assessed, treated, stabilised, and prepared for emergency transport.
At the Central Tongu District Hospital, Accident and Emergency personnel managed the influx of patients, receiving structured handovers from ambulance crews to ensure continuity of care. Officers of the Ghana Police Service simultaneously secured the incident scenes and managed traffic movement to facilitate the safe and efficient passage of emergency vehicles.
Beyond the practical response activities, the exercise served as a valuable platform for strengthening teamwork, enhancing operational coordination, and reinforcing the critical partnerships that underpin effective emergency management.
The successful simulation demonstrated the collective commitment of the participating agencies to maintaining a high state of readiness and ensuring that the people of Central Tongu receive a swift, coordinated, and professional response whenever emergencies arise.
