The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has once again demonstrated its vital role in Ghana’s healthcare delivery system by providing medical and emergency response cover for the 2026 Annual Health Directors Conference held in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region.
The conference, which brought together Health Directors and key stakeholders from across the country, served as an important platform to discuss strategies for improving healthcare delivery and advancing the implementation of Free Primary Health Care in Ghana. Held under the theme “From Policy to Practice: The DDHS Driving Free Primary Health Care in Ghana,” the gathering focused on health education, medical screening and referral systems aimed at improving health outcomes nationwide.
As a key partner in Ghana’s healthcare continuum, the National Ambulance Service contributed significantly to the event’s emergency preparedness arrangements by ensuring that emergency medical support was readily available throughout the conference. The Service’s presence strengthened the referral pathway and guaranteed timely transportation of patients requiring higher-level medical care.
The conference was attended by the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, and other distinguished stakeholders within Ghana’s health sector.
The emergency medical team was led by Upper East Regional Administrative Manager, DCAEMT Azudaa R. Atandigre, who coordinated the deployment and ensured the availability of prompt medical response services throughout the programme.
The assignment highlights the growing importance of emergency medical services in supporting major national programmes and public events. Beyond responding to road traffic crashes and routine emergency calls, the National Ambulance Service continues to play a critical role in safeguarding participants at large gatherings by providing structured emergency medical response systems.
The deployment further underscores the Service’s unwavering commitment to its mandate of delivering timely, professional and life-saving emergency medical care across the country.
