The Hohoe and Dzolokpuita Ambulance Stations of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, collaborated with the Volta Regional Hospital in Hohoe and students of the Hohoe Nursing Training College to conduct a joint simulation exercise aimed at strengthening emergency preparedness and inter-agency coordination.
The exercise brought together Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), hospital trauma teams and nursing trainees to simulate a high-pressure emergency scenario, providing an opportunity to assess operational readiness and the effectiveness of emergency response systems.
Designed to evaluate pre-hospital emergency care and patient handover procedures, the simulation tested coordination between first responders and receiving medical teams while highlighting the importance of teamwork in the management of emergency cases.
A key component of the exercise was the active participation of nursing trainees, who worked alongside experienced EMTs and healthcare professionals. The practical engagement exposed the students to trauma management, emergency scene operations, patient stabilisation and coordinated clinical decision-making in a simulated emergency environment.
The exercise also underscored the importance of integrating health trainees into emergency preparedness activities, helping to equip future healthcare professionals with practical skills and a deeper understanding of Ghana’s pre-hospital emergency care system.
Officials from the participating institutions noted that regular simulation exercises remain essential for maintaining operational readiness, strengthening collaboration among emergency response stakeholders and improving patient outcomes.
Through such partnerships with healthcare institutions and training colleges, the National Ambulance Service continues to enhance emergency response capacity and promote a coordinated approach to delivering timely, lifesaving care across the country.
