The NAS Volta Regional Administration, through the Kpando Ambulance Station, has conducted a joint simulation exercise with the Emergency Unit of the Margaret Marquart Catholic Hospital (MMCH) aimed at strengthening pre-hospital emergency care and enhancing coordination between ambulance personnel and hospital staff during emergency situations.
The exercise simulated a severe road traffic crash involving multiple casualties and required rapid response, effective communication, and coordinated patient management. Upon arriving at the scene, the Kpando Ambulance crew carried out field triage, administered emergency care, and safely transported casualties to MMCH for further treatment.
At the hospital, patients were formally handed over to the receiving medical team, allowing both institutions to test and evaluate critical patient transfer and handover procedures that are essential for ensuring continuity of care.
The simulation also provided a valuable learning experience for students of the MMCH Nursing and Midwifery Training School who are currently on clinical attachment at the Emergency Unit, as well as Community Medical First Responders (CMFRs). Participants gained practical exposure to casualty management, triage prioritization, teamwork, and trauma care protocols in a realistic emergency setting.
The exercise forms part of NAS’s ongoing commitment to maintaining operational readiness, strengthening collaboration with healthcare partners, and ensuring the delivery of quality emergency medical services to the public.
Management of the station commended the ambulance crew, emergency department personnel of MMCH, CMFRs, and nursing trainees for their dedication, professionalism, and teamwork in making the exercise a success.
