The National Ambulance Service (NAS) Upper East Regional Emergency Dispatch Centre has received a visit from Madam Emy Ellis, Technical Advisor for Impact and Quality Assurance at Catholic Relief Services (CRS), as part of her monitoring visit to CRS-supported projects in northern Ghana.
Madam Ellis, who is based in Baltimore, USA, inspected the facility and assessed its operations following its renovation and equipping with modern emergency dispatch technology in 2024 under the CRS HOPE-MCH Project.
She was accompanied by Madam Gloria Ama Ansah, Technical Advisor for the HOPE-MCH Project; Mr Anthony Abaako, NEAL Officer; and Madam Hanifatu Seni, CRS District Coordinator for Talensi.
Welcoming the delegation, Upper East Regional Administrative Manager, DCAEMT Azudaa R. Atandigre, provided an overview of the Dispatch Centre and highlighted its impact on emergency response, particularly in supporting ambulance operations in remote communities.
He also outlined ongoing CRS-supported initiatives in Talensi and Nadam Districts, including the training of Modified Motor-King Ambulance Drivers (MMADs), jointly implemented by NAS and the Ghana Health Service.
Deputy Administrative Manager, PAEMT Dennis Awafo, subsequently demonstrated how the Centre dispatches, tracks and monitors Modified Motor-King Ambulances operating in hard-to-reach areas. The demonstration provided the CRS team with a practical insight into how the system is strengthening emergency response and coordination.
The team also noted that IEMT Abdul Rahaman Sakina, recognised as the Best National Dispatcher, hails from the Upper East Regional Emergency Dispatch Centre.
Impressed by the Centre’s operations, Madam Ellis expressed admiration for the facility, noting that it was far better than she had envisaged. She also commended the dedication of Emergency Medical Technicians and their daily commitment to saving lives.
DCAEMT Atandigre expressed appreciation to CRS Ghana for its continued support to NAS, particularly in the Upper East Region, and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to working with partners to strengthen emergency medical services and provide timely care to save lives.
