The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, has visited the Dabala Junction and Akatsi Ambulance Stations in the Volta Region as part of his ongoing working tour to assess operational activities, engage personnel, and strengthen collaboration with local authorities. At Dabala Junction, the CEO was briefed on the station’s development and ongoing projects. Originally established in Sogakope in 2012, the station’s operations have since been associated with a new facility at Dabala, which was handed over to the National Ambulance Service in January 2026 with the support of the District Chief Executive (DCE). The building was originally intended for the Ghana Highway Authority. Dr. Owusu expressed satisfaction with the work being undertaken by the Station Manager and encouraged continued dedication towards improving the station’s operational environment. He also stated that Management will support the ongoing projects to enhance the facility and strengthen service delivery. On staff welfare and career progression, the CEO advised Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) experiencing promotion-related challenges to submit individual written applications to Headquarters for consideration. He further emphasised the importance of refresher training for Community-based First Responders (CMFRs) to reinforce their knowledge and skills in providing initial assistance during emergencies. At the Akatsi Ambulance Station, attention was drawn to the successful restoration of the station’s ambulance, which had been out of commission for an extended period. Its return to operational service represents an important step towards strengthening emergency response capacity in the municipality. As part of efforts to deepen collaboration with local authorities, Dr. Owusu paid a courtesy call on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Akatsi. During the engagement, the CEO gave assurance of efforts to secure a new ambulance for the municipality, while the MCE, in turn, assured him of plans to construct a new ambulance station for the team. The engagements underscore the National Ambulance Service’s commitment to improving operational infrastructure, supporting personnel, strengthening community-level emergency response, and working closely with local authorities to advance prehospital emergency care.
