The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has taken a significant step towards strengthening emergency preparedness at Takoradi Airport with the deployment of a fully equipped ambulance, paving the way for the establishment of the airport’s first-ever Ambulance Station.
The ambulance was formally handed over by a NAS delegation led by the Regional Administrators, PCAEMT Frank Baffour Manu and PAEMT Ayanah Musah Abdulai, and received by management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited at Takoradi Airport.
This historic intervention marks the beginning of a dedicated prehospital emergency medical response presence at the airport, ensuring that passengers, airline crew, airport personnel and visitors have access to timely emergency medical care when needed.
The deployment is expected to significantly improve emergency response times within the airport enclave, facilitate immediate first aid and patient stabilisation, and support the safe evacuation of patients to appropriate health facilities during medical emergencies and aviation-related incidents.
Takoradi Airport serves as an important aviation hub for Ghana’s oil and gas industry and the growing commercial activities of the Western Region. The introduction of an ambulance station will therefore strengthen the airport’s emergency response capacity and contribute to the safety and confidence of its users.
Speaking at the brief handover ceremony, the NAS Regional Administrator reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to extending prehospital emergency care to strategic national installations and ensuring that emergency medical assistance is accessible when and where it is needed.
Management of Takoradi Airport expressed appreciation to the National Ambulance Service for the intervention and assured that the ambulance would be professionally maintained and utilised for its intended purpose.
