The National Ambulance Service (NAS), Greater Accra Region, has reiterated the importance of pedestrian safety as a shared responsibility in preventing road traffic crashes and saving lives at the launch of the “Safe Crossing, Saves Lives” Pedestrian Safety Campaign at the Madina Zongo Junction Footbridge on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Addressing stakeholders at the event, the Greater Accra Regional Administrative Manager, DCAEMT Daniel Asare, underscored the critical importance of pedestrian safety, describing it as a matter of life and death that the Service encounters daily through emergency calls received on the 112 emergency line.
He stressed that while NAS remains committed to delivering timely and professional emergency medical care to victims of road traffic crashes, preventing such incidents in the first place must remain a collective responsibility.
As part of the campaign, NAS encouraged pedestrians to make use of footbridges and designated crossing points rather than expose themselves to unnecessary risks. Motorists were equally urged to exercise caution, reduce speed around junctions and remain vigilant at pedestrian crossing points.
The Service further pledged its support for the initiative through the provision of emergency medical care, sharing relevant road traffic crash hotspot data with road safety stakeholders, and intensifying community education on pedestrian safety through its Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).
NAS commended the National Road Safety Authority, La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, National Petroleum Authority and Ghana Gas Company for their collaboration and commitment to promoting safer roads and protecting lives.
While the National Ambulance Service remains ready to respond through its 112 emergency line, the ultimate victory lies in preventing emergencies before they happen.
