A five-member delegation from Fosun Medical Technology, an emergency medical service provider based in China, paid a courtesy call on the Management of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) earlier today at the Service’s conference room to explore opportunities for collaboration and present innovative emergency medical technologies.
The meeting forms part of NAS's ongoing efforts to explore innovative solutions and international partnerships aimed at strengthening emergency medical service delivery in Ghana.
During the meeting, the team's Information Technology expert, Mr. Li Qianjian George, delivered a presentation highlighting China's advanced emergency medical systems. He spoke on key technological innovations, including integrated information systems, mobile medical oxygen plants, tracking devices, communication gadgets, and emergency response procedures.
Mr. Li explained that, the Chinese emergency response system could be adapted to suit the operational needs of the National Ambulance Service. According to him, "the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology helps distinguish prank calls from genuine emergency cases, thereby improving response efficiency and reducing delays".
He further noted that China's emergency medical services maintain an average response time of between eight and ten minutes. He added that each ambulance is staffed with a doctor, a nurse, and a driver, while the country's ambulance-to-population ratio stands at one ambulance for every 15,000 people.
The leader of the delegation, Mr. Zhang Bing Byron, emphasized the importance of establishing a robust Information Technology infrastructure within the National Ambulance Service. He highlighted several technological advantages implemented in China, including onboard management systems installed in ambulances that monitor personnel activities, detect alcohol consumption, prevent unauthorized removal of medical equipment, and track operational activities within the vehicles.
A member of the delegation, Ms. Zhang Yuginj Melody, proposed a training programme in July 2026 to provide NAS personnel with a comprehensive understanding of strategic technological systems that could enhance Ghana's emergency medical response framework.
Welcoming the delegation, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, expressed appreciation for the visit and the insights shared by the Fosun Medical Technology team. He invited the delegation to participate in the upcoming Medical Conference scheduled for September 2026 in Ghana, where further discussions on a possible partnership are expected to take place.
