Eleven people sustained severe injuries following a road traffic accident along the Kintampo–Tamale Highway near Tafo, close to Kintampo.
The crash involved a trailer truck transporting cement from Kumasi to Bolgatanga and a Toyota Hiace commercial minibus carrying 15 passengers en route from Kumasi to Tamale.
Emergency response teams from Kintampo and Jema were swiftly dispatched, with additional support from Tuobodom. Despite not having a functional ambulance, the Kintampo team arrived first due to proximity, followed closely by the Jema crew. An additional ambulance was later deployed to support the evacuation.
Out of the 15 occupants, 11 sustained serious injuries—comprising 10 males and one female—and were promptly treated and transported to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Kintampo Municipal Hospital.
Victims presented with varying degrees of trauma, including head injuries, multiple fractures, and deep lacerations. Two critically injured patients, suffering severe fractures and joint dislocations, were later referred to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital Trauma Centre for specialized care.
One person was confirmed dead at the scene. Three others with minor injuries were also conveyed to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital by other means for further treatment.
Preliminary investigations by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service indicate that the minibus ran into a stationary trailer truck parked along the roadside near the Tafo Gaso Fuel Station.
The swift and coordinated response by emergency teams from Kintampo, Jema, and Tuobodom played a crucial role in minimizing fatalities and ensuring timely medical care for the injured.
