The Ashanti Regional Administrative Manager of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), DCAEMT Miilon Sommik Duut, on May 6, 2026, delivered a research presentation at the ongoing National Conference on Injury Prevention at the MasterCard Impact Building, KNUST, Kumasi.
The conference, which is being held from May 5–6, 2026, is under the theme “Nipping Ghana’s Injury Menace in the Bud – Harnessing Evidence from Local Research,” and has brought together researchers, policymakers, and emergency care professionals from across the country.
Presenting on the topic “Factors Influencing Willingness to Intervene as Bystanders Among Adult Residents Living in Crash-Prone Areas in the Ashanti Region of Ghana,” DCAEMT Miilon Sommik Duut highlighted the critical role of bystanders in improving survival outcomes in road traffic emergencies.
As part of his findings, he assessed how knowledge influences the willingness of bystanders to assist victims during road traffic crashes, noting that individuals with basic first aid knowledge are more likely to intervene confidently at the scene.
He further recommended the need to train drivers in first aid and to increase the availability of high-quality first-aid training for laypersons in crash-prone areas.
In addition to his presentation, He also served as a panel member during a session on “Road Traffic Injuries: Why Do They Continue to Rise in Ghana?” where panelists examined the underlying causes of increasing road crashes and discussed practical, evidence-based strategies to address the challenge.
The conference continues to provide a platform for sharing local research findings aimed at informing policy and strengthening injury prevention efforts nationwide.
