The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, yesterday conducted a working visit to the Ashanti Region to assess operations and engage with staff.
He toured the Suame Ambulance Station, the Regional Administration, and the Regional Dispatch Center, praising EMTs for their dedication to providing quality pre-hospital emergency care.
Operational updates revealed 750 emergency calls in February, with 727 successfully responded to, and fleet availability now at 75% after repairs. All 319 ambulances nationwide are also fully insured with the State Insurance Company (SIC), and 400 new ambulances are being procured along with essential spare parts.
Dr. Owusu also clarified that medical motorbikes will complement ambulances, reducing response times for critical emergencies in busy locations like markets and malls.
To improve dispatch operations, the Service has engaged the National Signals Bureau to provide reliable internet for 24-hour emergency coordination.
The visit reaffirmed NAS Management’s commitment to strengthening emergency response across the region.
