As part of his one day visit to Ashanti region, The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu, paid a working visit to the Kumasi Dispatch Centre in the Ashanti Region.
During the visit, Dr. Owusu met with the Head of Dispatch, DCAEMT Princess Gyan, and staff of the centre, where he emphasized that dispatch enhancement remains a top priority for the Service this year.
He noted that the future of emergency response depends on strong integration between dispatch and receiving facilities, including real-time bed availability. He announced that a pilot of the system will be launched in Accra and Kumasi before nationwide rollout.
The CEO also highlighted ongoing reforms including structured call-taking, improved triaging of patients, and the development of standard operating procedures to ensure appropriate resource dispatch and better pre-arrival instructions to callers.
He further disclosed plans to introduce call recording systems across regional dispatch centres for quality assurance and medico-legal purposes, as well as strengthen staffing by recruiting and training additional dedicated call-takers.
Dr. Owusu added that efforts are underway to improve logistics, enhance training, and address challenges such as unreliable electricity supply to ensure 24/7 dispatch operations.
The delegation included Board Member Major (Rtd) Christine Okoi, Director of Finance Mr. Victor Cofie, Deputy Director of Administration Miss Elizabeth D. Tetteh, and Ashanti Regional Administrator DCAEMT Sommik Duut Miilon.
