Management of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) has engaged pharmaceutical company KI TSS Therapeutics in discussions over the potential adoption of an innovative blood-clotting product known as 'Blood Stop'.
The meeting, held at the NAS headquarters conference room today, was led by the Chief Executive Officer of NAS, Dr. (Med) George Kojo Owusu. The delegation from KI TSS Therapeutics was headed by its Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Eulalie Deganus.
During the engagement, Madam Deganus introduced 'Blood Stop', a sterile, absorbable haemostatic product designed to control bleeding in emergency situations. She noted that the product has received approval from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and has been in circulation in Ghana for the past three years.
According to her, the product is the result of research conducted in California- USA, with cotton as its primary raw material, and is widely used by the United States military. She highlighted several benefits of the product, explaining that "it promotes rapid blood clotting, seals wounds effectively, prevents skin irritation, and forms a protective gel layer immediately upon application".
Also speaking at the meeting, the Director of Marketing and Sales at KI TSS Therapeutics, Mr. Frederick Anim, emphasized that 'Blood Stop' was developed as a targeted intervention to help reduce mortality rates, particularly in emergency care.
"We therefore advocate for its use in pre-hospital and emergency settings. The product remains sterile even when applied to contaminated wounds and is available in various sizes for different medical needs".
In response, Dr. George Owusu, on behalf of NAS Management, welcomed the delegation and commended the innovation behind the product. He further requested that a pilot supply be provided for use in ambulances to assess its effectiveness, with the possibility of large-scale procurement depending on the outcome of the trial.
