The National Ambulance Service (NAS) joined stakeholders, public institutions, and members of the international community in commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on June 26, 2026.
Representing the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr. George Kojo Owusu, the Head of Special Operations, PAEMT Mohammed Mashud, together with a team of dedicated NAS personnel, participated in the event to demonstrate the Service’s commitment to promoting public health and supporting efforts aimed at combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
As Ghana’s foremost pre-hospital emergency care provider, the National Ambulance Service continues to play a critical role in safeguarding lives through emergency medical response, public education, and collaboration with key stakeholders to address health and safety challenges affecting communities across the country.
The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as World Drug Day, is observed annually on June 26. Established by the United Nations in 1987, the day seeks to strengthen global action and cooperation towards achieving a world free from drug abuse.
The commemoration serves as a platform to raise awareness about the dangers associated with illicit drug use and trafficking, while encouraging governments, institutions, and individuals to work collectively to protect public health, enhance community safety, and promote sustainable development.
Through its participation, the National Ambulance Service reaffirmed its support for initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles, prevent substance abuse, and contribute to the well-being of all citizens.
