A group of seven students from the Department of Public Relations of the University of Media, Arts and Communication – Institute of Journalism (UNIMAC-IJ) paid an educational visit to the Public Relations Unit of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) Headquarters on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
The visit formed part of the students’ academic requirements towards the successful completion of their four-year Bachelor of Arts programme in Communication Studies (Public Relations).
The educational engagement was conducted in two phases, comprising an interview session with the Public Relations Unit and a guided tour of the NAS Headquarters Workshop.
During the interview session, the Deputy Director of Public Relations, Mr. Simmons Yussif Kewura, interacted with the students and provided detailed insights into the operations of the Public Relations Unit. Discussions focused on the background and establishment of the Unit, its organisational structure, day-to-day responsibilities, communication channels, key publics and stakeholders of the National Ambulance Service, as well as the management of the Service’s social media platforms.
The students also engaged staff of the Public Relations Unit in an interactive discussion, during which ideas were exchanged on academic studies, professional practice, and career development in the field of public relations.
As part of the visit, the students toured the NAS Workshop Headquarters, where the Fleet Manager, DCAEMT Francis Nkebi, together with SAEMT Kennedy Okodie took them through various operational activities and maintenance processes of the Service. The session provided the students with first-hand exposure to the operational support systems that ensure the efficiency and readiness of the National Ambulance Service fleet.
The visit was highly interactive and informative, offering the students valuable practical knowledge to complement their academic studies.
The students expressed their appreciation to the Management of NAS for granting them the opportunity to learn from the Service. They also noted that the experience would significantly contribute to the successful completion of their academic project and broaden their understanding of public relations practice within the public sector.
